In this episode, Tommy Halferty reflects on the pivotal years of his trio with bassist Ronan Guilfoyle and drummer John Wadham (1936–2003). He delves into Wadham’s profound influence—not just as a bandmate but as a mentor who shaped both his and Ronan’s approach to jazz.
The trio developed their own voice, writing original music and putting a distinct personal stamp on jazz standards. Their first residency at Dublin’s Focus Theatre, run by Deirdre O’Connell, lasted over two and a half years, offering them a space to explore and refine their sound. During this period, they recorded a collection of tracks—unreleased yet of remarkable quality—that capture the energy and creativity of the group at the time.
